Independent Skiing
 Portillo, Chile

Dining in Portillo is nearly as important as the skiing. Our master chef Rafael Figueroa creates wonderful, hearty, healthy meals using Chile’s excellent fish, seafood, fruits, vegetables and wines, as well as Argentina’s wonderful beef and lamb. Vegetarian alternatives are excellent and always available as Portillo’s owner is a vegetarian.

In Portillo, guests get hungry so we serve four meals per day including tea from 5 to 6pm. Dinner is served late in the Chilean custom, first seating at 8:30pm and second seating at 9:45 pm. Our North American guests who are accustomed to eating early should eat something during the tea hour and then dine again later with all our guests at 8:30 pm (mainly families) or 9:45 pm (adults).

The dining room is a wonderful space. It is a very large room with huge windows overlooking the lake. It's leather walls date back fifty years. Our Maitre D’, Juan Beiza, gives guests a table and assigns waiters and bus boys for the week and it is not long before guests are feeling right at home, making their special requests, and inviting other guests to join them at their table for the evening.

Portillo’s rooms are simply decorated and comfortable. Our rooms do not have TV. Since the best way to enjoy Portillo is to take full advantage of the multitude of activities we offer, most of our guests use their rooms for naps, sleep and romance, and if they want to see TV it is found in the cinema or disco.

Portillo's rooms have telephones, safes and internet connections (limited number of room internet connections available, therefore inquire early to obtain one-- otherwise use our cyber café). Chile uses 220 volts, so be sure to bring a transformer if you bring your own electronics. Hairdryers are available from your floor housekeeping staff or you may wish to bring your own.

Our housekeeping staff are your personal valets. They will help you with whatever you need when ever you need it, whether it is a quick cold drink, a band-aid, laundry or a mending job. The housekeepers live on each floor and they are among the world’s nicest people.
